Response to Allegations of Substandard Flour in The Gambia
Banjul, The Gambia – 27th February 2026 – Nessim Trading Company, alongside key stakeholders in the local flour production industry, wishes to address recent allegations made by the Bakers’ Union regarding the quality of locally produced flour in The Gambia. We take these concerns seriously and remain fully committed to upholding the highest standards of food safety and quality.
First and foremost, we assure our valued consumers, partners, and the general public that all locally produced flour undergoes rigorous testing and quality control measures before reaching the market. Our production processes strictly adhere to national and international food safety regulations, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards for baking and other uses.
We acknowledge the concerns raised by the Bakers’ Union and invite them, along with relevant regulatory bodies, to engage in an open dialogue and independent quality assessment. We are confident that our products will withstand scrutiny and meet the necessary benchmarks for safety and performance.
Furthermore, Nessim Trading Company maintains a close partnership with the Food Safety and Quality Authority of The Gambia (FSQA) and other regulatory agencies to ensure full compliance with all applicable food production regulations. We are also open to working with independent, accredited testing organizations to further verify the superior quality of our flour.
Misinformation regarding the quality of locally produced flour not only affects businesses but also creates unnecessary panic among consumers. We urge all stakeholders to rely on verified data and transparent discussions when addressing such concerns.
As part of our ongoing commitment to quality, we continue to invest in research, quality control, and customer satisfaction to ensure that Gambian bakers and consumers receive the best products available. Nessim Trading Company remains a cornerstone of The Gambia’s socio-economic development, providing stable employment opportunities with a minimum salary of D7, 000 and contributing significantly to government revenue through diligent tax compliance.
Our production capacity of 600 tons per day, with only 60 percent currently utilized to meet national demand, unequivocally demonstrates the self-sufficiency of The Gambia’s flour industry. This eliminates the need for flour imports, strengthening domestic economic stability. Additionally, we have maintained stable pricing for over a year, ensuring affordability for Gambian households.
