On behalf of my family, the Board of Directors of NESSIM Trading Company, and the employees of NESSIM Milling, I thank you all for honouring our invitation to grace this historic occasion – the Inauguration of NESSIM Trading – Flour Milling Factory. Despite your very tight schedules, you have considered it worthwhile to come and join us here. May The Almighty Allah who has the power to reward people, reward you for your thorough and genuine friendship.
We chose the Gambia to invest in, because the Gambia is our home. Mauritania and Gambia have been brothers for ages, and that will continue for eternity. Your Excellency, we have invested a total sum of 14 Million US Dollar into this noble project. The journey to establishing NESSIM Milling was not an easy one, but the support of your government, especially GIEPA’s support, NEA, Department of Land, the Lord Mayor of Banjul, as well as the determination and hard work of all employees of NESSIM Trading Company, have made this project a success.
We embarked on this project, not purposely for profit making, but rather humane, to develop the Gambia production market, export trade, and create employment for the Gambia youths. We have a lot of demands to meet. We have promises to fulfil towards the youth, and commitments to the Gambia market and beyond. Your Excellency, we cannot archive this without your government’s support. For the Milling factory or any local industry to be sustainable, there should be government protection.
For us to meet the demands of our banking partners, investors, and the people of the Gambia, we need to produce 300 tons of wheat or more everyday, and we need to sell 90% of what we produce daily. That is a target that we must reach to be able to meet our commitments. Your Excellency, we will not be able to do that, if there is no protection on wheat flour market. Protection of local industries is a win-win situation for the Government and the local industries – the government get more revenue. Increase in tax will enable the local industries to sell their goods and services at ease.
I wish to specially thank the management of the Gambia Ports Authority, the Gambia Revenue Authority, and the Commissioner-General of Customs Services for all the services and support provided to the NESSIM Trading Company.
Once again, I thank H.E. President Adama Barrow and all distinguished guests for gracing this occasion. Long live the Republic of the Gambia. Amen.
Mr Ahmed El Mealy
MD, NESSIM Trading Company
